Orpheus & Erudice
A project created to explore art nouveau, minimalism, & typography as graphic styles, narrating the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, a Greek myth tragedy.
This was a deep study of design for motion, made to explore the tone & emotion uniquely conveyed by each stylistic choice through this project, divided into three parts.
part 1: art nouveau - exoticism and extravagance
In part 1, I wanted to convey a juxtaposing emotion, showing both romance and death, as the couple is separated though Eurydice’s death from a poisonous snake bite. I thought that art nouveau, with it’s sensual curvy lines combined with its muted colors hit both points.
part 2: minimalism - simplicity and emptiness
In part 2, I wanted to convey a hit of numbness that comes with finding out the death of a loved one. To achieve this, I kept the shape and color choices to a minimum for a more simple look, and turned the focus to the setting more than Orpheus to convey the emptiness he must have felt.
Part 3: typography - ambiguity and communication
In part 3, I wanted to convey the last part of the story in a different perspective using typography. I left the words to be more ambiguous and obscure in the hopes that viewers will want to know more about their story and how they end.
